EXCESSIVE SPINE SIDE BENDING

The following limitations are usually at the origin of this swing characteristic.

When a player has a lead Thorax Extension/Rotation Mobility Dysfunction, he or she will tend to excessively side bend the spine to compensate for this limitation.

Positive Lumbar Locked Extension/Rotation Test.

A lead Hip Internal Rotation Mobility Dysfunction can prevent the player from rotating their lower body in the downswing, causing them to sideband instead. This can also cause them to slide, instead of rotate, forcing the spine into excessive side bend away from the target.

Positive Tests: Seated and Prone Hip Rotation.

A trail Hip Extension Mobility Dysfunction can also be at the origin of this swing deficiency.

Positive Tests: FABER, Modified Thomas Test.
